Gourd ornament takes third (12/13/05)

Bryant resident Angela Reinhart won third place in the electric Consumer Christmas Ornament Contest for her rendering of the Holy Family on a piece of gourd. The Jay County REMC customer used pyrography, watercolors and acrylics to create the work. The opposite side of the ornament contains the Bible verse John 3:16. Reinhart’s bronze award earned her $75. She will conduct a gourd class for the Pregnancy Care Center on Dec. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Assistant named
Vicki Schuhmacher was recently chosen as the new executive assistant at Arts Place in Portland. She has an associate’s degree in medical assisting from Ivy Tech and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Schuhmacher will be responsible for maintaining corporate records, donor acknowledgement, receptionist supervision and assisting the executive director.
Can drive
The Fort Recovery Public Library will be collecting canned goods, paper products and non perishable food items now through Jan. 7. In return, overdue fines will be waived. For more information, call the library at (419) 375-2869.
Life Skill winners
The life skill for November was “sense of humor” at Bloomfield Elementary School. Life skill winners were Eden Andrews, Rebecca Betz, Carson Blowers, Ashley Braun, Owen Buschur, Garrett Campbell, Hannah Fifer, Josh Haver, Nathan Heitkamp, Brandon Hough, Hannah Lykins, Conner Ray, Elizabeth Swartzentruber and Evan VanCise.
Students of month
West Jay Middle School recently announced its Students of the Month for November.
In sixth grade was Matthew Shrack, son of Mike and Cindy Shrack. Seventh grade winner was Tiffany Bost, daughter of John and Sandy Bost. In eighth grade was Wil Masters, son of Mike and Debbie Masters.
Story time
A baby and toddler activity time will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at Jay County Public Library. Infants and toddlers, up to age three, are welcome to attend with an adult. Older siblings are welcome.[[In-content Ad]]
