Gov. Daniels attending breakfast

Jay County Chamber of Commerce members are invited to travel to Muncie Aug. 11 to attend “Breakfast with the Governor.”
Gov. Mitch Daniels be at the Horizon Convention Center for the event, which will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Daniels will be available to speak with attendees.

Due to the event in Muncie, the regularly schedule Jay County Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast in Dunkirk will be cancelled.
National honors
Fisher Packing Co. recently won national recognition at the 71st Convention of the American Association of Meat Processors in Kansas City, Mo.
The Portland company was awarded first place, including grand champion honors in the braunschweiger class, as well as the Clarence Knebel Best of Show Memorial Award.
The competition featured 747 entries in 26 different categories.

Old National
Old National Bancorp reported second-quarter earnings of $10.5 million, up 9.2 percent from the year prior.
The company experienced growth in commercial lending and business checking accounts and posted the highest quarterly wealth management new account sales in the last five years. Old National also boosted earnings by setting aside less money to compensate bad loans.
Comcast
Comcast Corp. experienced a second-quarter earnings decline of 8.6 percent due to expenses incurred in its deal to purchase a majority stake in NBC.
Comcast reported a net income of $884 million, down from $967 million a year ago. The company saw expenses totaling $59 million in its venture to gain control of NBC as well as benefited from a $137 million tax benefit the year prior.
Revenue, however, increased 6.1 percent to $9.52 billion ahead of expectations.
CVS
CVS Caremark announced a 7.3 percent earnings decrease a day after it reached a pharmacy-benefit management agreement with Aetna Inc.
The company reported a $821 million profit, down from $886 million the year before. Revenues also fell 3.5 percent to $24.01 billion.
Norfolk Southern
Railroad company Norfolk Southern reported a net income increase of 59 percent in the second quarter.
Norfolk Southern posted a net income of $392 million as operating revenues increased 31 percent to $2.4 billion and income from railway operations improved 57 percent to $733 million.

Amanda Wyerick, independent consultant for Scentsy candle company, was recently promoted to certified consultant.
