Government addresses at breakfast

The next Jay County Chamber of Commerce networking breakfast will be held Jan 13.
Jay County Commissioner Milo Miller Jr. will deliver the State of the County address and Dunkirk Mayor Ron Hunt will give the State of the City of Dunkirk address.
The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Dunkirk Elks Lodge. Cost is $4 and reservations should be made to the Chamber at 726-4481 or by e-mail to [email protected].
Fined
A Muncie battery recycling company was fined $97,500 for releasing too-high lead emissions into the air.
Exide Technologies released 2.33 micrograms per cubic meter of lead inti the air out of its secondary lead smelter during the second quarter of 2008, above the allowable maximum of 1.5 micrograms per cubic meter.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is planning to revise its standards, further reducing that allowance to .15 micrograms per cubic meter.
Exide claims that a small fire that occurred in the plant during June caused damage to some equipment, leading to the increased pollution.
Better outlook
Allegheny Technologies Incorporated improved its fourth quarter outlook, predicted earnings between $0.20 and $0.25 per share, up from previous forecasts of an increase of $0.01 per share.
ATI announced that a combination of volume, material costs, and an increasing market are among reasons for the improved expectations.
ATI owns the Portland Forge, which recently celebrated its 100th year in business.
Development series
The Jay County Chamber of Commerce will host its next professional development series program on Jan. 28.
Craig Frazee of Dynamic Business Solutions will present Selling on the Internet. The presentation will focus on selling online, running a secure business, handling payments and online promotion.
The session will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the John Jay Center for Learning.
Registration will be $40 for the first person and $35 for each additional person for chamber members and $45 for the first and $40 for additional people for non-members. Deadline to register is Jan. 22.

Longtime Tyson Foods competitor Pilgrim's Pride has emerged from bankruptcy and will soon be part of a company that will bump Tyson from its perch as the world's largest meat producer.
The company, which filed for bankruptcy a year ago, is selling a 64 percent stake to giant Brazilian beef producer JBS.
JBS is also on track to buy Bertin SA, one of Latin America's largest producers of milk products, beef, ande leather. When complete, JBS will top Tyson.[[In-content Ad]]
