Grants to fund SA classes (5/16/03)
Board receives updates on plans
BERNE — The South Adams School Board was updated earlier this week on the school system’s plans for summer school.
Curriculum director Larry Piety informed the board about which summer classes will be paid for by grants. The high school English courses, in addition to second and fifth grade reading and math, will be funded by grant money. Piety also reported that the state of Indiana will pay salaries for this summer’s math teachers, but benefit costs will still have to be covered by the school.
In other business Tuesday, the board:
•Gave Supt. Connie Bailey permission to apply for the following grants: Title I, Title II A, Title II D, Title III, Title IV A, Migrant Grant, Gifted and Talented Grant, GQE Grant, Remediation/Prevention Grant and a Summer School Grant.
•Granted a conference request for Steve Rhoades, NIAAA/IIAAA Leadership Training Summer Institute, in Indianapolis, on July 30-31.
•Accepted the retirements of: Julia Amstutz, 43 years of teaching at South Adams Elementary School; Sue Snyder, 39 years, South Adams Elementary School; and Larry Piety, curriculum director, 17 out of 40 years in education was spent at South Adams school system.[[In-content Ad]]
