Gray finishes 2nd in conference (05/15/07)

JCHS boys golf

MUNCIE - Adam Gray was solid for the opening nine holes. On the second nine, no one was better.

The Jay County sophomore shot a 1-over-par 36 Monday as he closed on the front nine at Crestview Golf Club to finish as the Olympic Athletic Conference runner-up.

The Patriots finished third with a score of 349 at the OAC boys golf tournament. Anderson Highland won the title at 334, five strokes ahead of Connersville, and host Muncie Southside was a distant fourth at 372.

Gray alternated bogeys and pars for the first six holes Monday as JCHS started on the back nine at Crestview. He bogeyed the final three holes of his opening nine, then added another bogey on No. 1 before catching fire.

He picked up his first birdie of the day on the par-5 second hole, then racked up three straight pars on Nos. 4, 5 and 6. After back-to-back bogeys he notched another birdie on the par-4 eighth hole and finished out with a par on No. 9.

The effort earned Gray All-OAC honors.

Jonathon Fennig was second for the Patriots with six pars for an 88. Justen Moser had five pars for a 91, and Gray Suman finished the team score with a 92.

Chris Shannon had a 96.[[In-content Ad]]
