JCHS/SAHS boys golf
GENEVA - Adam Gray finished in fourth place, leading the Jay County High School boys golf team to its best invitational finish off the year Saturday.
Gray's 8-over-par 79 led the Patriots to a team total of 365 and a fourth-place finish out of 10 at the South Adams Invitational. Norwell was first at Wabash Valley Golf Club with a 305, followed by Freemont (337) and Garrett (361).
The host Starfires placed sixth with a 404.
A consistent round - he had just one double bogey - led Gray to his finish behind Mathew Clouser (74), Tyler Mathews (75) and Drew Imel (76), all of Norwell. He had six pars in the first round, and put together a run of six straight spanning the turn.
Gray's lone birdie of the day came on the 120-yard, par-3 15th hole.
Justen Moser, in his first action of the year, matched Adam Horn for the No. 2 JCHS score as both shot 94. Moser opened his round with back-to-back pars, and added a birdie on the 305-yard, par-4 seventh hole. Horn finished with four pars, three of which came on the front nine.
Chase Wellman had two pars in his round of 98, and Kyle Wellman had one as he shot 111.
Landyn Waugh led the way for the host Starfires with a 94, and Ryan Moser shot a 98. Thurman Pursley and Mark Farris each finished at 106.
