Gray leads Pats to 3rd at invite (04/23/07)

GENEVA - Another great round from Adam Gray led Jay County to a third-place finish at the South Adams Invitational Saturday.
Gray's third-place 79 powered the Patriot boys golf team to a score of 370 at Wabash Valley Golf Club. Fremont edged Norwell 330-331 for the win, and the host Starfires placed fifth at the seven-team event at 382.
For the second time this year Gray finished just behind Norwell's Drew Imel, who shot 75 and won a playoff for first.
The JCHS sophomore played a consistent round, finishing with all pars and bogeys. His key stretch came around the turn as he put together a stretch of six pars in seven holes.
Following Gray for Jay County was Justen Moser, who had a six-par round for a 91. Gray Suman had four pars on the way to a 97, and Kyle Cook came in at 103. Luke Darby scored a 111.
Stein leads Fort
ANSONIA, Ohio - Holly Stein led the Fort Recovery track teams to their only wins Friday night.
The Indians finished first in the girls shot put and discus on the way to a fourth-place finish with 48 points at Ansonia's Tiger Relays. The host Tigers won the 10-team event with 110 points, and Bethel was second with 79.
The Tribe boys were sixth as they scored 17 points. Arcanum psoted 102 points for the victory, and Bethel was second with 90.
Stein keyed the two wins for the Tribe, which finished about 10 feet ahead of the competition in both throwing relays. The Indians combined for a distance of 91 feet, 51/2 inches in the shot put and 272 feet, 11/2 inches in the discus.
The top finish for the Indian boys was a third place in the high jump at 16 feet, 2 inches. Fort Recovery's girls were also second in the distance medley (14-minutes, 24.26 seconds) and third in the 4x800 relay (10:50.09) and middle distance relay (7:49.8).

MUNCIE - Jay County's highest finish in any event Saturday was a third place as it finished sixth overall at the Muncie Relays.
The Patriot boys track team scored 21 points to finish sixth out of eight teams.
The top finish came in the 4x100-meter relay, where Ruben Vela, Brandon Reynard, Lance Franklin and Sean Hatzell teamed for third in 46.86 seconds.
Senior Mason Shreve was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 46.07, and sophomore Dexter Shreve took fifth in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. Brandon Reynard posted a time of 11.30 for fourth in the 100 dash.[[In-content Ad]]
