Grief classes to be held in Portland (03/23/06)

State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice will begin grief education classes on Monday, March 27, and they will continue for five consecutive Mondays. The classes will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at the hospice office at 410 W. Votaw St. in Portland.
The free support group is for adults who are mourning the death of a loved one, recent or in the past. For more information or to register, call the Hospice office at (260) 726-3220 or (800) 527-0514.
Honor roll
Stephanie Sodders has been selected for induction into the 2005-06 National Honor Roll for outstanding academic achievement. She is the granddaughter of Portland residents Max and Bernice McClurg and Redkey residents Karl and Carol Sodders. Her parents are Brad and Kay Sodders, Baltimore, Ohio. Her name and biography will appear in the upcoming National Honor Roll book and she will be able to compete for a National Honor Roll Awards for Academic Achievement scholarship.
FFA banquet
The Jay County FFA parent-member banquet will be Friday, April 7, with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m.
Student awards and the annual student auction will be held. This year’s sweetheart to be auctioned is Ashley Shawver, with the money going for scholarships. Also the Hall of Fame Award will be presented to an adult who has impacted Jay County agriculture.
Troopers wanted
The 82nd Airborne Division Association is looking for “The Lost Trooper,”which is any airborne veteran that served in the military over the past 65 years to record their deeds and unite them with their comrades by joining the association.

Whitney E. Schemenaur has made the dean’s list at Ohio Northern University for the winter quarter of 2005-06. She is a freshman majoring in early childhood education and is the daughter of C. Andy and Pam Schemenaur.
Area students recently made the dean’s list for the 2005 winter quarter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. Making the list were Christina Muhlenkamp, Portland, a freshman majoring in chemical engineering and the daughter of Theresa and Allen Muhlenkamp; Tony Homan, Bryant, a junior majoring in computer engineering and the son of Rick and Cathy Homan; Adam Ford, Portland, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering and the son of Terri and F. Dwane Ford; and Ian Thomas, Pennville, a freshman majoring in computer engineering and the son of Jo and Randy Thomas.
Antiques appraised
Appraisers and restoration consultants will be at The Indiana History Center on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help identify heirlooms and collectibles. The center is located at 450 W. Ohio Street, Indianapolis.

Ten free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to anyone who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation by March 31. Members will also receive a subscription to Arbor Day, the foundation’s monthly publication, and The Tree Book.
