Grief sessions offered
Taking Note
State of the Heart Hospice and Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, both of Portland, are partnering to offer a series of free grief support sessions.
“Growing Through Grief” will begin Wednesday, Sept. 14, for adults and will continue each week through Oct. 19. The weekly sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the State of the Heart office at 1237 W. Ind. 67.
The sessions will be facilitated by Marlene Black, bereavement specialist, and assisted by Joe Hines, aftercare specialist.

Book sale
Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, Friday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, Aug. 27, at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland.
Today is the last day to donate books for the sale. Donated materials should be in good, clean condition and textbooks and outdated books won’t be accepted.

Croquet tournament
The 3rd Annual College Corner Croquet On the Banks of the Little Salamonie will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at the home of Barry and Elizabeth Hudson, 1525 S. Meridian St. in Portland.
White attire is suggested for the event that will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $80 per two person team and includes at catered lunch from Fishers.
