Guggenbiller, Kahlig lead Tribe victory (04/05/05)

ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team racked up six runs in the second inning as Dusty Guggenbiller and Sean Kahlig led the way to a 9-3 victory over the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders Monday.

Guggenbiller was perfect on the day, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. He drove in four runs, scored once and stole a base.

Kahlig was responsible for the other Indian extra-base hit as he blasted his first career home run. He finished with two runs and two RBIs.

The Tribe (3-2), which also got two runs and two steals from Todd Post and two hits from Bobby Rammel, had already scored once in the first inning before exploding in the second. It added one run in the fourth and one in the seventh, and Memorial scored once in each in the final three innings.

Brad Fortkamp got his first win of the year, as he went the distance giving up seven hits and one walk.

He struck out five, and all of the Roughriders’ runs were unearned.

JV baseball falls

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team got close, but never led in a 7-4 loss to Memorial Monday.

The Indians (0-2) gave up a run in the first inning and fell behind 5-1 midway through the fifth. They scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one, but never pulled even.

Craig Garman took the defeat, giving up seven runs — three earned — on six hits in 61/3 innings. He walked five and struck out two.

Toby Metzger singled and scored a run for the Tribe, and Troy Dilworth had two walks and two runs.

‘Riders top JV softball

ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fourteen hits proved not enough as three unearned runs toppled the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team Monday in a 5-4 loss to Memorial.

The Indians (2-1) had nine more hits than Memorial for the game, but still trailed 5-2 after six innings. They scored twice in the seventh to fall one run short.

Ashley Grube led a group of four Tribe batters with at least two hits, going 3-for-4 with a triple. She drove in a pair of runs.

Sara Fortkamp and Lori Osterholt each had two hits and a run, and Val Fortkamp also notched two hits.

Beth May allowed five runs — two earned — on five hits and seven walks to take the defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
