Hall, Gray qualify for districts

LIMA, Ohio — The Indians will have a pair of swimmers competing at the district tournament.
Marshall Hull earned district berths in a pair of events and Andy Gray added a third for the Fort Recovery High School boys swim team at Saturday’s sectional meet at Lima YMCA. They will compete in the district tournament Friday at Bowling Green State University.
Hull turned in the top effort for the Tribe with a third-place finish in the boys 100-yard backstroke. He finished in 1 minute, 1.73 seconds, trailing only Aaron Burkhart of Lexington and Ryan Kremer of Wapakoneta.
The junior was also seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.76. The top eight swimmers in each event advanced to district competition.
Gray earned his trip to the district meet with a sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 23.74. He narrowly missed a second berth as he placed ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.89.
Mitch Homan was 12th in the 500 freestyle, and Lane Hull finished 13th in the 100 butterfly. Olivia Acheson paced the Fort Recovery girls with a 22nd-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:45.38.
EJ wins; SA second
Levi Hummel led the East Jay Middle School wrestling team to victory Saturday as it hosted the East Jay Invitational.
The Chiefs scored 319 points to finish ahead of runner-up South Adams (246). Delta was third with 241 points, and West Jay placed seventh.
Hummel earned the lone championship of the day for East Jay, posting a 3-0 record to win the 145-pound title. The Chiefs got second-place finishes from Kaimen Sanders (80), Colten Compton (90), Ivan Hemmelgarn (95), Graham Hianes (120), Matt Blackford (135) and Andy Kohler (160) all with 2-1 records.
Wyatt Miller, Kam DeLong, Gage Conner and Gabe Schwartz all picked up titles for South Adams. Chance Sprunger and Kody Coates each finished second.
Dallas Dudelston went 3-0 to win the 115-pound weight class for West Jay. Jacob Geesaman (85) finished second at 2-1, and Matt Partlow (HWT) was third at 3-1.

Tribe teams fall
NEW KNOXVILLE and CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team dropped out of the Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday with a 48-32, first-round loss to Coldwater. The seventh graders fell 53-20 to St. Marys.
Jackson Hobbs totaled 13 points for the Tribe eighth graders, who finished at 11-6. Chase Bruns added seven points.
Caleb Martin finished with five points for the seventh grade team, which will play host Celina Thursday in the McKirnan Classic. Tom Koester scored four points.

Fort seasons end
NEW BREMEN, Ohio and FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s middle school girls basketball teams each fell in the second round of the Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday.
Kendra Siefring finished with eight points for the eighth grade team, which finished at 8-10. Caitlyn Huelskamp added five points.
Jocie Kaiser totaled seven points for the seventh grade Indians. Devin Post added four points.[[In-content Ad]]
