Hamm, Tarter lead Winchester over Starfires (12/05/07)

BERNE - The South Adams High School girls basketball team simply had no answer for Sarah Hamm.

The 6-foot-2-inch Winchester center dominated inside with 25 points Tuesday in leading her Golden Falcons to a 56-37 victory over the host Starfires.

Hamm shot 8-of-13 from the field and converted on all of her nine free-throw attempts for her game-high scoring total. She also led Winchester with eight rebounds.

Kelsey Tarter had a big game as well, hitting 5-of-9 for 13 points. She added six rebounds.

Anne Lehman and Jordan Lehman did the bulk of the work for South Adams. Anne finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Jordan had 13 points and eight boards.

Ashton Morgan dished out four assists, and Jana Beitler had three steals. The Starfires, who got outscored 19-6 in the second quarter and trailed by 16 at the half, shot just 18 percent before the intermission and 27 percent for the game.

South Adams dropped the junior varsity game 60-14 with Jaci Liechty scoring a team-high four points. Kaylee Fraze had 12 for Winchester, and Brittany Ludwick followed with 10 points.

Tribe still perfect

FORT RECOVERY - Both Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams ran their records to 3-0 Tuesday with wins over the Coldwater Cavaliers.

The seventh grade team pounding the visitors 46-15 while the eighth graders scored a 40-28 victory.

Kelly Nietfeld turned in a monster game to lead the eighth graders as she had a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kylie Kahlig scored 11 points, and Becca Tobe grabbed seven boards.

Rachel Rammel and Amy Link reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively for the seventh graders. Chelsea Pottkotter had nine points and four rebounds.

EJ 7th undefeated

East Jay Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team stayed perfect on the year Tuesday with a 45-23 victory over Union City Westside. The eighth graders also won, 44-24.

Brock McFarland scored 12 points to lead the Chief seventh graders, who allowed just two points in the opening quarter and three in the second for a 23-5 halftime lead. Cade Price also reached double figures with 11 points, and Kegan Comer scored eight.

The eighth grade team (3-1) rolled to a 10-3 first-quarter lead, and then racked up 17 points in the third quarter. Jordan McBride led the effort with 11 points, Andy Haffner followed with 10 and Darren Scott scored nine.[[In-content Ad]]
