Handel's Messiah to be presented

The Mennonite Choral Society will present Handel’s Messiah on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Christmas portion on Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Mennonite Church in Berne. The concerts will feature pipe organ, timpani, cello and harpsichord as well as professional soloists.
The performances will be directed by Brent Hyman who has served as director of the Choral Society since 1999.

Christmas at Minnetrista
The Enchanted Luminaria Walk will  be held today and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnetrista in Muncie.
Stroll the Boulevard and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.
There will be snacks, crafts, carriage rides, campfires and hundreds of luminaries. There is no cost.
A Gingerbread House Workshop will be Saturday, Dec. 10, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $25 and registration is necessary.
Camp Minnetrista will take place Dec. 27, 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for students on Christmas break.
There will be crafts and games. The cost is $30 per day and registration is necessary.

Auction totals
Arts Place in Portland raised $20,832.25 at its 29th annual Holiday Benefit Auction on Nov. 18, which is the second highest total ever raised. There were 250 people in attendance.
Auction co-chair Carolyn Carducci commented, “In today’s economy it is very encouraging to see the financial support Arts Place receives from their annual Holiday Auction. The success of this auction is a testament to the importance Arts Place has in our community and how the arts touch all of our lives.”
The auction is a kickoff to the annual fundraising campaign with a goal set at $380,000.

Top students
West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for November.
In sixth grade was Desiree Duncan, the daughter of Ronald and Ruth Duncan.
In seventh grade was Megan Johnson, the daughter of Matt and Jennifer Johnson.
In eighth grade was Julia Garringer, the daughter of Greg and Laura Garringer.

Library news
Jay County Public Library has added new computer stations for genealogy research in the Indiana Room. This year’s editions of The Commercial Review will be available to view and search; internet access will be available for AncestryLibrary, HeritageQuest and the Evergreen Indiana catalog; word processing, publishing and spreadsheet programs are also available.
One on one classes for internet beginners are available at the library with adult services librarian Molly Jones. To schedule a session, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Story times in December will be held Monday, Dec. 5 and 12 with Miss Linda and Tuesday, Dec. 6 and 13 with Miss Mary. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
The Book Discussion Group will discuss the book “A Redbird Christmas” by Fannie Flagg at its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.  
The  library will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7 and at noon on Saturday, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31.[[In-content Ad]]
