Hawks defeat SA volleyball

BERNE - The South Adams High School volleyball team lost 25-12, 25-17, 25-12 Thursday to the visiting Harding Hawks.
Amber Neuenschwander finished with 23 assists, 10 digs and two kills in the defeat. Karen Bollenbacher added 13 kills, 12 digs and four blocks.
The Starfires also lost 25-15, 25-16 in the junior varsity match and 25-17, 25-17 in the freshman match.
FR 7th tops 'Skins
FORT RECOVERY - Mitch Stammen's 2-point conversion lifted the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade football team to an 8-6 victory Thursday over the St. Henry Redskins. The Tribe lost the eighth grade game 20-14.
St. Henry grabbed a 6-0 lead in the seventh grade game, but Cole Hull pulled the Indians even with a 51-yard touchdown reception from Stammen in the fourth quarter. Stammen's 2-point conversion run provided the winning margin.
Kent Retz tossed TD passes to Bobby Mattraw and Alex Wenning for FRHS in the eighth grade game. Wenning also had a 2-point conversion run.
Hill wins all-around
RICHMOND - Halle Hill led a group of local competitors Saturday at the Tumble Around the World gymnastics competition.
Hill made a clean sweep of the 7-8-year-old Level 5 events to win the all-around with a total of 29.43. Her winning event scores were 8.45 on the vault, 7.9 on the floor exercise, 7.53 on the balance beam and 5.55 on the uneven bars.
Lizzy Schoenlein was first on the beam (8.75), bars (8.1) and all-around (34.825) in the 7-11-year-old Level 7 events, and Jocelyn Huey won the 9-11-year-old Level 4 vault (9.4) and bars (8.55).
Courtney Miles took the top spot in the 7-11-year-old Level 7 floor (8.9), and Korinna Schindler was first on the 9-11-year-old Level 5 vault (8.7).
Schoenlein, Huey and Miles all qualified for the state competition.[[In-content Ad]]
