Heitkamp pours in career-high 37 for Capital (02/18/06)

The last time the Crusaders were on the road Sara Heitkamp engineered the greatest comeback in NCAA Division III history. This time all she did was score a career high.
Heitkamp, who graduated from Fort Recovery in 2002, posted 37 points as her 20th-ranked Capital University women’s basketball team defeated Mount Union 60-55 Feb. 11.
She had 28 points Feb. 1 at Wilmington when she led the team to victory after trailing by 28 points, the largest comeback ever recorded in Division III.
The senior guard led the Crusaders (21-3) back from a six-point deficit in the first half, scoring 21 of her career-best total in the second half against Mount Union. She finished 10-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and made 13-of-15 free throws. She also had six rebounds and four assists.
Her previous high scoring total came in December with 36 points in a double-overtime win over Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
Heitkamp also scored 11 points in Wednesday’s 65-45 victory over Marietta, which clinched second place in the Ohio Athletic Conference for Capital. She added eight rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.

The Huntington University freshman posted one of the Forester women’s track teams five victories as it finished second at the Ohio Northern indoor meet Feb. 10.
Roughia edged teammate Vanessa Macias by just over a second in the mile, finishing in 5-minutes, 41.35 seconds. She was also second in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:21.65.
Dustin Overton

Despite his team-leading point total, the Ancilla College men’s basketball team couldn’t find enough offense as it fell 81-67 to Kalamazoo Valley Community College Feb. 10.
Overton scored 17 points and also grabbed seven rebounds in the defeat. He also had eight points and seven boards in a 103-81 loss to Kellogg Community College Wednesday.
Kyle Weaver

He scored points in six events as the Wabash College men’s swim team placed third behind Kenyon and Denison at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 9-11.
Weaver’s best individual finish came in the 100-yard butterfly where he placed fifth in 52.5 seconds. He was 10th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.95.
The junior was also in on four third-place relay finishes for the Little Giants, earning himself All-NCAC honors. He teamed with Michael Hewitt, Blaine Cooper-Surma and Jordan Blackwell in two of those relays, finishing the 200 freestyle in 1-minute, 26.5 seconds and the 400 freestyle in 3:11.45.
Weaver, Hewitt and Blackwell joined Brent Graham for third in the 400 medley relay in 3:35.14, and Weaver, Hewitt, Cooper-Surma and Jordan Extine were third in the 200 medley relay in 1:37.71. Wabash finished behind Denison and Kenyon in all four of those relays.
Andrew Wells

He also helped Wabash to its third-place team finish, scoring in a pair of events at the NCAC meet.
Wells put forth his best effort in the longest event, the 1,650-meter freestyle. He finished in 13th place with a time of 17-minutes, 47-58 seconds.
He reached the wall in 5:04.54 to place 24th in the 500 freestyle.
Tyler Niekamp

Came up with two points and three rebounds as the Findlay University men’s basketball team rebounded from just its third loss of the season to defeat Mercyhurst 60-47 Thursday.
Niekamp also had two points and a rebound as the No. 15 Oilers fell 71-69 in overtime to 16th-ranked Grand Valley State Feb. 11. The loss ended a 17-game winning streak for Findlay.[[In-content Ad]]
