Heitkamp ties career-high vs. Muskingum (02/12/05)

The Capital University women’s basketball team, led by Sara Heitkamp, is getting back on track.
Heitkamp, a Fort Recovery graduate, has led the Crusaders in scoring in each of their last two games. They have now won three straight following a stretch in which they dropped four of eight after opening the season with 10 consecutive victories.
The junior matched her career high with 32 points Feb. 5 in an 80-68 win over Muskingum College. Capital led by just three points at halftime, but opened the second half with a 15-4 run capped by a pair of Heitkamp 3-pointers.
She hit four triples overall, finishing 10-of-19 from the field. She had a game-high of seven steals to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
Heitkamp and Kati Todd shared the team-high of 21 points Wednesday as the Crusaders got revenge against the team which gave them their first loss of the year by beating John Carroll 66-57. She went six of-10 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and 7-of-10 from the foul line. She notched team highs of eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
She leads the team in scoring, assists and steals and is second on the squad in rebounding. Her 17.4 scoring average ranks her second in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and she is also second in steals (3.57 per game) and third in assists (4.33).
Kerri McClung
The Jay County graduate was one of three Falcons to win an event as the Bowling Green women’s track team finished second at the CMU meet hosted by Central Michigan Feb. 5.
McClung dominated the shot put at the six-team event, winning with a toss of 50 feet, 10 inches. She took first by 13 inches.
She also finished sixth in the weight throw at 49.725 inches.
Kyle Weaver
The 2003 graduate of Jay County was in on one of the Wabash College men’s swim team’s three All-North Coast Athletic Conference efforts Thursday.
Weaver, Colin Fahey, Chad Damitz and Tony Caldwell placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The finished in 1-minute, 25.23 seconds.
Wabash was in third place after the first of three days of NCAC championship swimming.
Amy Meyer
The South Adams graduate was one of four University of St. Francis women’s basketball players to score in double digits, but it wasn’t enough as the Cougars fell 85-78 to Wayne State.
Meyer matched teammate Megan Dossen for second on the squad with 13 points as USF dropped to 19-9.
Abby Arnold
The 2002 Jay County graduate clinched victory for the Ball State women’s swim team as it defeated Marshal 155-145 Feb. 4.
Arnold swam the third leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, grabbing the lead for the Cardinals in the deciding event. She and teammates Karla Bailey, Brittany Sayler and Sarah Welter won the event in 1-minute, 36.99 seconds.
She also teamed with Danielle Fisher, Brittany Mishler and Michelle Arakgi for fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.98. She was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25 seconds.
Arnold was also fourth in the 50-yard freestyle Feb. 5 in a 171-128 loss to Ohio University. She finished in 25.51.
She added a sixth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.56 and teamed with Nora Lucas, Arakgi and Fisher for sixth in the 200-yard medley relay in 4:11.40.
Caleb Bye
A 2003 graduate and former teammate of Arnold’s at Jay County scored a third-place finish as the Ball State men’s swim team defeated Ohio University 176-122.
Bye finished third in one-meter diving, scoring 247.43 points. He was fourth in the 3-meter event with 218.63 points.
Steph Welch
The junior posted a second-place finish as she helped the Bluffton University women’s track team to a third-place finish at the nine-team Anderson University Indoor Invitational Feb. 5.
Welch, a South Adams graduate, was one of three athletes to jump five feet in the high jump. She won the tiebreaker to finish second ahead of teammate Kirstie Dravenstott and Anderson’s Kim Talhelm.
She also placed fourth in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2-minutes, 41.01 seconds.
Amanda Habegger
A former teammate of Welch’s at South Adams, she scored a couple of top-eight finishes at Anderson last week.
Habegger, who graduated in 2001, was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.10 seconds. She was also seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1-minute, 5.21 seconds.
Dustin Overton
The 2004 Jay County graduate put some points on the board in a 78-48 loss of the Ancilla College men’s basketball team against Grand Rapids Community College recently.
Overton hit a pair of field goals, finishing with four points.[[In-content Ad]]
