Heritage festival scheduled (09/23/2008)
Taking Note
The sixth annual Jay County Heritage Festival will be held at the Jay County Historical Museum grounds, 903 E. Main St. in Portland on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5.
Portland native and star of the Lawrence Welk Show, Jack Imel, will be attending and will be honored both days at 1 p.m. State Representative Bill Davis and Portland Mayor Bruce Hosier will be presenting Imel with special awards.
There will also be entertainment both days, a living history camp, artisans, crafters, hands-on activities, a Native American camp, Civil War reenactors and pioneer children's activities.
Kettle cooked ham and beans will be served on Saturday and kettle cooked chili on Sunday. Footlong hot dogs, funnel cakes, caramel corn and ice cream will also be available.
Festival hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Fort auction
The Fort Recovery Historical Society and Project Recovery will hold its eighth annual "One of a Kind Auction" on Oct. 19 in the Fort Recovery Middle School auditeria.
The theme is "A Night at the Opera" and will take place from 5 until 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Fort Recovery Insurance Agency, Mercer Savings Bank, First Financial Bank, Second National Bank or from Historical Society or Project Recovery members. Tickets include an appetizer and dessert buffet and a bid number.

Nicole Elking, Derrick Huelskamp and Lauren Wenning, all of Fort Recovery, were named to the president's list for the spring semester at the University of Toledo.
