Heritage Festival upcoming

The 8th Annual Jay County Heritage Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St. in Portland, with the theme “When Grandpa Farmed — The History of Farming in Jay County.”
Saturday’s entertainment will include the Fort Wayne Shrine Bag Pipes from 11 a.m. until noon; Les Gustafson-Zook multi instrumentalist from noon until 1 p.m.; John Sherman, Jay County native and author from 1 to 2 p.m.; Jeff Steed discussing Norman Rockwell’s  “The County Agent” from 2 to 3 p.m.; Soarin’ Hawk Birds of Prey from 3 to 4 p.m.; Jay County Community Band from 4 to 5 p.m.; Play It by Ear Barbershop Quartet from 5 to 6 p.m. and Joan Witherspoon’s Harmony String Band from 6 to 7 p.m.
Sunday’s entertainment will include Brother to Brother Gospel Plus from noon until 1 p.m.; Jeff Steed will again speak from 1 to 2 p.m.; Red Garter Banjo Band from 2 to 3 p.m. and Adlie Hedges Square Dance Time from 3 to 4 p.m.
The festival is funded in part by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission and
Arts Place, Inc. Star sponsors are Jay County Tourism, First Bank of Berne, Cincinnatus League, Portland Breakfast Optimists, Stone Ridge Electronics and Portland Evening Optimists and entertainment sponsor is First Merchants Bank.

Three stars
The Jay County FFA Chapter recently received a three-star rating from the National FFA Organization in the National FFA Chapter Award program. The local chapter has been invited to attend the 83rd National Convention in Indianapolis in October where they will be recognized for the three-star rating.[[In-content Ad]]
