Heritage too much for Starfires (09/16/05)

MONROEVILLE — The South Adams volleyball team dropped to .500 in the Allen County Athletic Conference Thursday with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 loss to the Heritage Patriots.

Renee Neuenschwander had six kills and six digs for the Starfires (3-11, 2-2 ACAC). She also had one ace.

Brooke Fox had nine digs and two blocks. Andrea Moser finished with three blocks, two kills and one ace.

Alyssa Miller posted 10 assists, Amber Melick had six digs and Tamara Moser notched two kills.

Indians, Tigers split

FORT RECOVERY — A big defensive play allowed Fort Recovery to come away with one victory as it took on the Versailles Tigers in junior high football action Thursday.

Nathan Keller’s interception return for a touchdown gave the Indian eighth graders a 6-0 win over Versailles. The seventh grade team lost 20-0.

Fort Recovery and Versailles played to a scoreless tie for the first three quarters. Keller broke the deadlock in the fourth, picking off a pass and returning it 30 yards for the winning touchdown.

The Tigers scored 14 second-quarter points and added six more in the third to win the seventh grade contest.

Chiefs fall to Dennis

East Jay’s volleyball teams each lost as they hosted Richmond Dennis Thursday. The eighth graders fell by a 25-15, 25-12 score, and the seventh graders took a 25-13, 25-18 defeat.

Lindsey Wellman paced the Chief eighth graders, finishing with team highs for five digs, three points, one kill and one block. Liz Walker also had three points, two of which came on aces, and added two assists.

Cierra Castillo totaled three digs.

Brittany Manor notched four kills to lead the seventh grade squad. She also had 11 digs and three assists.

Laura Castillo totaled 13 digs, four aces and three kills. Abby Denney scored seven points, four of which came on aces.

Jay blanks Highland

The Jay County freshman football team evened its record Thursday night with a 26-0 victory over the Anderson Highland Scots. The Patriots improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.[[In-content Ad]]
