High Rollers open with wins

BLUFFTON — Lee Mock came up big in the final two games of the evening Tuesday.
Mock turned in the high series as he led the Jay County High Rollers high school bowling team to victory over Southern Wells. The squads tied 10-10, but Jay County won the total pins tiebreaker 1,750-1,745.
The High Rollers also defeated South Adams Tuesday, 18.5-1.5.
After rolling a 192 in the first game of the night, Mock caught fire against Southern Wells for games of 223 and 245 as he turned in a team-best, two-game total of 468.
Rachel Vogler added a 346 series against Southern Wells.
Drew Wood paced the victory over South Adams with a top game of 230 and a 453 series. Colby Cline added a 424 series.

Eagles top SA
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School boys basketball teams bounced back from their opening defeats with a pair of victories Tuesday over visiting South Adams.

The seventh grade squad topped the Starfires 28-21, and the seventh graders won 31-28.
Kyler Carvel paced the Eagle seventh graders with 15 points. Phillip Newsome added six points and 11 rebounds.
West Jay got 15 points from Nate Brackman to lead the eighth grade victory. Case Retter finished with 10 points and nine boards.

East Jay splits
MONROE — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team evened its record at 1-1 Tuesday with a 26-22 win over Adams Central. The seventh graders lost 30-17.
Justin Dirksen led the eighth grade Chiefs with eight points. Nick Clemens and Zach Pryor each added six points.
Bryce Hensley totaled eight points for the EJMS seventh graders (0-2).
