BLUFFTON — The Jay County Boys High Rollers bowling team opened its 2004-05 season with a big win, crushing Blackford 19-1. The girls team, in its inaugural season, dropped a 14.5-5.5 decision which was much closes than the final score indicates.

The Jay County boys couldn’t have started the season any better as they rolled a team-record 1,118 first game, taking all 10 points. They cruised again in the second game with a 982, winning all but one individual point.

Cory Mock paced the High Rollers with a 472 series, and Preston Shoopman followed with a 439. Cody Wright also averaged better than 200 with a 411.

The girls match came down to Norwell’s final bowler, who needed back-to-back strikes to take the five team points in the second game. She got the pair of strikes to swipe the victory from Jay County.

Summer Roush rolled a 333 series to lead the High Rollers. Olivia Meehan rolled a 289, and Amanda Barnett had a 256.

Jay County’s boys will bowl again Saturday at Huntington North. The girls will was Southern Wells Saturday at Hartford City.

Jay tankers blast Bellmont

DECATUR — The Jay County Winter Swim Team had a pair of triple-event winners in three different divisions and won 39-of-46 individual events overall for a 524-225 victory over Bellmont Tuesday.

Jay County had two swimmers win three events in the 8-and-younger boys division, the 9-10-year-old girls division and the 13-and-older boys division.

Levi Hummel and Sok Vormohr did the job for the 8-and-younger boys, with Hummel winning the long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke. Vormohr took his wins in the butterfly, backstroke and short freestyle.

Emilee Miller took first in the 9-10-year-old girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley. Mary Hudson joined her with victories in the backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle.

Sam Miller grabbed wins in the 13-and-older boys backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle. Justin Klopp added wins in the long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.

Annie Vormohr also had three victories as she took firs tin the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle. Cori Vormohr won the 13-and-older girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.

Mitchell Kaverman dominated the 9-10-year-old boys division with wins in the long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Alysha Miller took control with victories in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.

Adding two wins apiece were Sophie Bader, Caitlin Ruchgy and Danny Mart. Rylee Clemmons, Caleb Hummel and Lauren Murrell each picked up one win.[[In-content Ad]]
