Highland comes back to beat the Patriots (09/25/06)

Local roundup

ANDERSON - A quick two-goal lead can often be insurmountable. But it was not enough for the Jay County boys soccer team Saturday.

The Patriots let a 2-0 lead slip away in less than 10 minutes and fell 3-2 to the Anderson Highland Scots Saturday.

The defeat was the third in a row for Jay County (5-6) and ended its chances of an outright Olympic Athletic Conference title.

Ryan Wellman scored just 8:22 into the game, and Mason Shreve added a goal from a Luke McClung assist just three minutes later. But the lead was short-lived.

Highland got on the scoreboard six minutes after Shreve's goal, and added a second tally before the mid-point of the opening half to tie the game. The score remained even for the next 55 minutes before the Scots scored the game-winner with just five minutes remaining.

The Patriots also dropped the junior varsity game 2-1, with the lone goal coming from Brad Horn.

FR gridders top Anna

FORT RECOVERY - The Anna Rockets jumped out to a 16-0 lead, but Fort Recovery would not be denied. The Indians held Anna scoreless over the final three quarters and rallied for a 20-16 junior varsity football victory Saturday.

Greg Kahlig and Eric Lamm got hot to spark the comeback, connecting on two of the Tribe's touchdowns.

The duo started the rally in the second quarter with a 6-yard scoring pass. Kahlig then found Eric Schmitz on a 55-yard strike to pull Fort Recovery within two points at the half.

Kahlig and Lamm hooked up again on a 5-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, and the Tribe defense stood strong to preserve the win.

Ingle/Osterholt seals title

The Ingle Realty/Osterholt Motorsports team finished its victory in the 2006 FCC Indiana Go-Kart Grand-Prix Series in style Saturday.

Ingle/Osterholt had a six-point lead going into the final of the three-race series, and finished off its title by winning the feature race. It finished the race, rescheduled from the Vintage Motor Bike Show in July, in first place ahead of Buckeye Design and Taylor Building.

Buckeye was second in the overall points behind Ingle/Osterholt (69) with 57, and LCS, Inc. was third with 55.

Ingle/Osterholt had a great day, finishing second in qualifying and first in its heat race. It edged Buckeye for the feature win as the top two teams were the only karts on the lead lap.

Other heat winners were LCS and Taylor, both of which joined Ingle in the top three in qualifying.[[In-content Ad]]It'll be all red and blue versus black and gold in the soccer sectional tournaments.
