Homemakers have achievement day (05/08/07)
Taking Note
Jay County Extension Homemakers recently held its achievement day. The organization boasts 140 members and had nine clubs this past year.
Betty Ann Peterson of the Richland Merry Mixers was honored for being a 50 year member.
Honored for 25 years of membership were Twilo Cline, Phyllis Johnson, Mildred Tyson and Carol LeMaster.
Ruth Schrack was recognized as the eldest member and Eleanor Purcell for being a member the longest time.
John Knipp did the installation of the 2007-08 county officers. President is Roberta R. Horn; vice president is Jane Bailey; secretary is Norma Bickel; treasurer is Emily Osterholt; and council advisor is Mary Gray.
First Aid class
The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Community First Aid and CPR class on Saturday, May 19.
The class will be held at the Portland Fire Department, 1616 N. Franklin St. in Portland from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

State finals
The Jay County High School Academic Social Studies team recently competed in the state finals of the Indiana Academic SuperBowl Competitions for Excellence at Purdue University.
The team consisting of Brittany Byrum, Jordan Inman, Ashley Theurer and Shelby Claycomb finished in sixth place.
New cheerleaders
West Jay Middle School recently held its cheerleader tryouts.
New cheerleaders for the sixth grade are Brea Burcham, Miranda Gerber, Mary McDaniel and Kaylee Rodeffer.
Seventh grade cheerleaders are Kennedi Craw, Taylor Franklin, Courtney Knight, Demi Lucas, Destiny Miller and Megan Price.
New cheerleaders for eighth grade are Paige Alsip, Jessica Chittum, Mackenzie McIntire, Marissa Murrell, Tiffany Moore, Megan Sawyer, Kelsey Sell and Shannon Springer.[[In-content Ad]]
