Homemakers offer scholarship (2/2/05)
Taking Note
Jay County’s Extension Homemaker Clubs are again offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors at Jay County High School.
The Extension Homemaker Council has presented the scholarship since the high school graduated its first class in 1976.
The scholarship is open to any graduating senior, male or female, who resides in Jay County. It is to be used for furthering education in family and consumer sciences and related areas, such as dietetics, restaurant management, nutrition, child development, family studies, fashion merchandising, clothing design, family economics, consumer education, or environmental design.
Students who are interested in applying may obtain application forms at the guidance office at JCHS or at the Extension Office, 504 W. Arch St., Portland.
Completed forms must be returned by April 4 to the Extension Office or the high school.
STORY TIMES
Story times in February at the Jay County Public Library will be on Mondays, Feb. 7, 14, and 21, at 10 a.m. and on Tuesdays, Feb. 8, 15, and 22, at 1 p.m.
The half-hour story times will include four or five books read aloud, followed by a craft or special event related to the theme of the books.
Library staff members say children from infants on up are invited to attend, but all must be accompanied by an adult who stays with the child during the story time.
No registration is required, but if you are bringing a large group, please call ahead to (260) 726-7890.
Other library events planned for kids this month include baby and toddler story times, which are set for Thursday, Feb. 10, and Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m.
Infants and toddlers up to age 3 are welcome. No registration is required.
A Saturday craft special is set for this Saturday, Feb. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. Kids will be making Valentine’s Day and winter crafts. Directions and material are provided, but adult supervision for young children is required.
An after-school special is set for Friday, Feb. 11, from 2:45 to 4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Registration is required and is limited to the first 20 children. There will be stories, a snack, and a craft project.
For more information, contact the library at (260) 726-7890.
