Horn goal gives Patriots tie

OSSIAN — The Jay County High School girls soccer team walked away with a tie Thursday as their game against the host Norwell Knights ended with a 1-1 score.
The Patriots (1-3-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime thanks to Norwell’s goal midway through the opening 40 minutes. But junior LeAnn Horn evened the score 16:33 into the second half and neither team got on the board the rest of the way.
Sammi Compton had three shots on goal for JCHS, and Horn added a pair. Mollie May finished with three saves.
Jay County dropped the junior varsity game 2-0 with Takoa Knight and Brooke Reynard each recording one shot on goal.

Raiders top spikers
The Class 2A No. 5 Wapahani Raiders ended the Jay County High School volleyball team’s four-match winning streak Thursday, handing the host Patriots a 25-13, 25-17, 25-21 defeat.

Tanner Martin had 12 assists and five points for JCHS (7-4), and Alyssa Rigby added eight digs and six points. Mariah Hornaday finished with 11 kills and two blocks, Maria Murphy had five kills and Sierra Weatherhead added five digs.
Ashley Motter had four points and two kills as the junior varsity team lost 25-18, 24-25, 15-4.
Boys soccer falls
The Patriots were shut out for the third time this season Thursday, falling 4-0 to the visiting Norwell Knights.
Norwell scored its first goal less than seven into the game and added two more in the first half on the way to the win. Jay County, which is now 0-6, managed just one shot on goal from Ravi Patel.
Austin Cowan finished with eight saves.
The junior varsity team improved to 3-1 as Zane Shreve scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
