Horn, Johnson lead Patriot victory

Local roundup

MARION - Whether or not Brad Horn wins the state scoring title may depend on how far the Patriots advance in the tournament. But he has made a mammoth push at the close of the regular season.

Horn scored five times Monday and fellow senior Patrick Johnson added three goals to lead the Jay County High School boys soccer team to an 8-4 victory over the host Lakeview Christian Lions.

The Patriots scored four times in each half to push their record to 12-4 and give them 30 wins over the course of the last two seasons.

Lakeview Christian had the lead twice in the first half - 1-0 just three minutes into the game and 3-2 - but could not stop Jay County's senior scorers.

After the Lions pulled ahead on a penalty kick with seven minutes to go in the first half, Horn responded. He scored twice within the final two minutes - his second and third goals of the game - getting assists from Dillon Ainsworth and Ben Brandt.

Horn needed just one minute to score his first goal of the second half on an assist from Alex Dunn to push the JCHS lead to 5-3. Five minutes later Johnson scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Jeremiah Cotherman, and with 31 minutes left Horn found the back of the net for his fifth goal on Brandt's second assist.

Lakeview put up its final goal with eight minutes to go, and Johnson finished the scoring for the final margin.

Adam Daniels recorded four saves in the win.

Horn's season-high five goals following his four-goal effort Thursday against Liberty Christian give him 39 for the season. He has scored three or more in a game eight times this year and four or more five times.

As of Sept. 26, he was third in the state in goals behind Brian Jarvis of Morristown and Kevin Eggert of Speedway.
