Hosier sisters earn awards (06/17/08)
Taking Note
It's been a spring to celebrate for the family of Portland mayor Bruce Hosier.
Nikki Y. Hosier-Billington and Alexis Y. Hosier, daughters of Bruce and Deb Hosier, have both chalked up academic accomplishments.
Nikki Hosier-Billington, now of New Albany, recently completed work on her principal certification through Indiana Wesleyan University. A graduate of Jay County High School with a bachelor's degree from Ball State University, she received her master's in education degree through Indiana Wesleyan.
Alexis Hosier was named to the Dean's List at Indiana University for the spring semester. She is a senior at I.U. majoring in sports broadcasting and communications. Currently, she is serving as a summer intern in the sports department of WISH-TV news in Indianapolis.
On Dean's List
Austin Flynn, son of Steve and Carlotta Flynn, Redkey, was named to the Dean's List at Wabash College for the spring semester. A JCHS grad, he is a Lilly Endowment Scholar.
Lauren Elizabeth Budde was named to the spring semester Dean's List at Anderson University.
Brandon McDavid weas named to the spring semester Dean's List at Vincennes University.
Story time Friday
At 1:30 p.m. Friday, it will be story time at the Jay County Public Library. "'Twas the Night Before Summer" will be the special program, with a reading of a new book with that title. There will also be luna moth activities.
The library is also sponsoring a "create a bug" contest for kids. Creations should be taken to the library by Saturday, June 28.
The only restrictions are that the "bug" must be able to be carried by its creator and remain on display during the summer reading program.
Entry forms are available at the library.
Receives degree
Derek Kunkle, son of Jeff and Rosi Kunkle, Portland, has received his bachelor's degree in radiation therapy from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a JCHS graduate.
Receive honors
Emily Lyons, daughter of Dan and Lisa Lyons, Portland, recently graduated cum laude from DePauw University in Greencastle. She received her bachelor's degree in computer science.
Sally Ronald, daughter of Jack and Connie Ronald, Portland, recently graduated with distinction from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in Russian and Slavic studies.
Historical meeting
Representatives of the Museum of the Soldier will present a program on World War I at the next meeting of the Jay County Historical Society.
The meeting, to be held at the society's museum at the end of East Main Street, Portland, is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.[[In-content Ad]]
