Houck leads Jay County

Drew Houck closed with back-to-back pars Tuesday as he led the Jay County High School boys golf team to a score of 168 for victories over the Union City Indians (180) and Randolph Southern Rebels (201).
Houck had two pars through the first seven holes at Portland Golf Club before finishing strong on the 344-yard, par-4 17th and 178-yard, par-3 18th. He scored a 40 as the Patriots improved to 8-3.
Evan Mathias had four pars as he followed Houck for JCHS with a 41. Austin Mann shot 43, and Justen Keller added a 44.

Moore 12th for Stars
FORT WAYNE — The season came to a close for the South Adams girls track team Tuesday at the reigonal meet hosted by Northrop.
Hannah Moore, a junior, had the top finish for the Starifres as she placed 12th in the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 32.52 seconds. She was also 15th with a time of 12:15 in the 3,200 run.
Kristen Muselman finished  14th in 2:30.43 in the 800 run. The top three athletes in each event advanced to the state finals.

Jets top JC baseball
Managing just two hits, the Jay County baseball team dropped its regular-season finale 12-1 in six innings Tuesday to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
Ryan Miskinis and Alex Dunn had the only hits for the Patriots, and Andy Haffner scored the lone run. Adams Central took control by scoring seven times in the first two innings.
Haffner started and took the loss.

SA softball falls
BLUFFTON — The season came to an end for the Starfires Tuesday as they fell 7-3 to the Bishop Luers Knights in the opening round of play in Class 2A’s Sectional 37.
South Adams (3-22) tied the game at one with a run in the second inning, but couldn’t keep up with the Knights the rest of the way. Bishop Luers scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, and tacked on three more in the seventh.
Lily Taing suffered the loss as she gave up seven runs — six earned — on five hits and nine walks. She struck out six batters.
Logan Chandler went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Jennifer Miller had a double, a run and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
