Houck paces JC golfers

NEW CASTLE - The Jay County High School boys golf team posted a score of 365 to finish ninth out of 10 teams in Saturday's New Castle Invitational at Westwood Golf Course. Anderson Highland won the tournament at 319, nine strokes ahead of the host Trojans.
Drew Houck paced the Patriots with an 85, which included the lone birdie of the day on the eighth hole. He also added five pars.
Mike Schnelle of Connersville was the medalist with a 73.
Jacob Heitkamp had four pars as he followed Houck with a 90 for Jay County, and Austin Mann notched four pars on the way to a 94. Evan Ryder and Mitchel Rigby each shot 96.
JV baseball falls
Jay County fell 12-1 in five innings and 6-2 Saturday to the visiting Norwell Knights.
Calvin Wyatt suffered the game-one defeat as Norwell scored four times in the second inning, two in the third and six in the fourth. Jordan McBride took the loss in game two.
McBride singled and scored the lone JCHS run in the opener, and Alex Dunn finished 2-for-3. Dunn had a single, a run and an RBI in the second game, and Nathan Frisch added a single and an RBI.
JV softball loses
PENDLETON - A seven-run fourth inning finished off the Patriots Saturday in an 11-1, five-inning loss to the Pendleton Heights Arabians.
Abbey Vance took the loss, giving up 11 runs - three earned - on eight hits and four walks.
