Hudson, Miller lead Patriots to 3-0

MONROE - Sophomores Mary Hudson and Eme Miller each picked up a pair of wins for the second straight meet, leading the Jay County High School girls swim team to a 103-72 victory Monday over the host Adams Central Flying Jets.

Hudson and Patriot senior Michelle Landfair went one-two in the 500-meter freestyle, with Hudson posting a winning time of 6 minutes, 5.19 seconds. She was also first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:14.3 as the team improved to 3-0.

Miller led a JCHS sweep of the 50 freestyle in 27.92 in front of Martyna Gajewska and Jocelyn Mann. Her other win came with a time of 1:01.44 in the 100 freestyle.

Landfair added a victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:19.14, and Megan Taylor was uncontested in diving as she scored 157.1 points.

Elaine Hemmelgarn helped key both of Jay County's relay wins. She teamed with, Michaela Long, Hudson and Landfair for first in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:27.27, and joined Laura Bowen, Caitlin Ruchgy and Gajewska to take the 200 medley relay in 2:14.46.

WJ 7th wins

HARTFORD CITY - The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team held off Hartford City Monday for a 27-25 victory. The eighth grade team lost, 35-27.

Nate Brackman paced the Eagle seventh graders (2-0), who led by six at the half, with 22 points and four rebounds. James Williams added three points and six boards.

The WJMS eighth grade team pulled to within six after trailing 24-7 at halftime, but could not complete the comeback. Kyle Selvey scored 12 points, and Jon Lowe and Toby McCallister each added four.

Chiefs drop pair

East Jay's boys basketball teams lost to Norwell Monday, the eighth graders by a 39-37 score and the seventh grade team 40-24.

Zane Shreve paced the eighth grade squad with 12 points. Jacob Schlosser and Trey Teagle joined him in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.

Bruggeman advances

Michael Bruggeman has joined Caytlyn Perry in advancing to the regional round o the NBA/WNBA Fit Challenge.

Bruggeman won the local competition in the 13-14-year-old boys division Nov. 14 at Jay Community Center. He and Perry will compete in the regional Monday in Indianapolis.[[In-content Ad]]
