Hunt powers JCHS gymnasts (12/13/07)

MONROEVILLE - The Jay County High School gymnastics team dominated its first dual meet of the year, taking the top three spots in three out of four events Wednesday for an 89.95-56.95 victory over the host Heritage Patriots.

Senior Erika Hunt picked up two of the three JCHS event wins and was first in the all-around competition with a score of 30.6. She won the balance beam with a 7.35 while Jenny Buckland and Kristen Ainsworth tied for second at 6.85, and took the top spot in the uneven bars at 7.05 ahead of Ainsworth (6.85) and Buckland (6.75) again.

Ainsworth, a freshman, edged Hunt (8.0) on the floor exercise with a winning tally of 8.1 Buckland was third at 7.8.

The lone victory for Heritage came on the vault, where Alicia Messman posted an 8.35 to finish ahead of Hunt (8.2) and Ainsworth (8.1).

Jay County's junior varsity team scored a 79.65 with Lexie Rowles winning the beam (6.6) and bars (6.35).

Kylie Kelso took first on the vault with an 8.1, and Kayci Ryder won the floor at 7.2.

Crestview tops Eagles

DUNKIRK - In two games, the West Jay Middle School girls basketball teams managed just one point in the first and third quarters combined as they suffered losses Wednesday against Crestview.

The eighth graders fell 39-14, and the seventh grade team took a 42-5 defeat.

Megan Sawyer scored seven points for the eighth grade squad, which went scoreless in the first and third periods. Marissa Murrell added four points.

The seventh graders managed just one first-quarter point, and none in the third quarter. Shelby Shirk scored three points, and Megan Price had the other two.[[In-content Ad]]
