Huntington North tops Star tankers (01/19/05)

South Adams Roundup

BERNE — Matt Kruse’s two victories helped the Starfires stay close. But, they were the only two victories of the night in a couple of team defeats.

The South Adams boys swim team put up a solid challenge to the Vikings, but still lost to Huntington North Tuesday 89-81. The girls team went winless in a 118-53 defeat.

Kruse, a freshman, dominated the longest event of the evening. He won the 500-yard freestyle by more than 25 seconds over Huntington North’s Braden Walter with a time of 5-minutes, 23.70 seconds.

He was also first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.90.

Stars win pair

GENEVA — South Adams’ junior high boys basketball teams grabbed a couple of wins as they hosted Salamonia Tuesday. The eighth graders rolled to a 46-26 win while the seventh grade team took a 38-29 victory.

The Starfire eighth grade team was never challenged, jumping out to a 13-3 lead after one quarter. The advantage jumped to 12 points at halftime and just kept growing.

Chris Stutzman scored six of his team-high 14 points in the first quarter. Cody Meshberger added five of his 12 in the first, and Joey Seylor and Ryan Moser each scored six points.

The seventh graders slowly watched their lead increase as it was two after one quarter, four at the half and five after three quarters on the way to the victory.

Nick Teeter set the pace with 13 points. Heath Moser scored nine points, and Roman Smith notched eight.[[In-content Ad]]
