Huntsman in BSU biz program (10/19/04)
Taking Note
Lisa Huntsman, Portland, is participating in Ball State University’s Business Fellows program. The program allows students to spend a semester in an intense applied work experience that will benefit an Indiana business, industry or community.
Huntsman is a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in art. She is working on Gardens for Health and Healing which will develop health-enhancing environments in Winchester and Kokomo. She is the daughter of Don Donahue, Portland.
INTERNSHIP
Robert Edward Chapman, Portland, completed a summer business internship with Wal-Mart, through Valparaiso University.
He is a junior at Valparaiso, majoring in marketing and is the son of Connie Ray, Portland.
LIBRARY EVENTS
The Jay County Public Library will have an after school special on Friday, Oct. 22, from 2:45 to 4 p.m. The event will be for children age kindergarten through grade three. Registration is required for this event.
There will be a costume contest for all ages in the community room on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Contestants will be judged in four categories, including children, adults, teens (grades six to 12) and family. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
Then at 7 p.m., a Silly Safari Halloween Show for all ages will be presented. This fun, informative hands-on program will feature animals you can touch and is for the whole family.
An Introduction to Genealogy class will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Learn to use the resources available in the Indiana Room at the library and how to begin to track down your roots or learn more about local history.
Shirley Dollar, JCPL staff member, will be teaching the class and registration is required. For more information about these programs or to register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
MINNETRISTA EVENTS
A Minne-trip to the Levi Coffin Historic Site in Fountain City will take place Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come learn about Coffin and the underground railroad. After the tour, lunch will be at the Family Diner. Upon returning to Minnetrista, the Our Land, Our Souls, Our Freedom exhibit will be toured.
