IGA under new ownership (12/20/2008)
Business roundup
The Ole Fort IGA in Fort Recovery remains open for business, but is under new ownership and has a new name.
The newly named Wayne IGA was purchased by Chad and Anne Guggenbiller, Fort Recovery, who bought the foreclosed store.
The couple said they wanted to keep the grocery store open so that the town had a place nearby to grab food.
Post office hours
The Portland Post Office will close early on the two upcoming holiday eves and be closed for the holidays.
The post office will close at 1 p.m. on Christmas and New Year's eves and will have last pickups at the blue collection boxes at noon. Mail will be delivered as usual on those days.
The office will be closed on Christmas and New Year's Day, with normal delivery resuming on the 26th and 2nd.
Awarded
An employee with Raymond James and Associates, Inc. in Portland received the Financial Adviser of the Year Award.
Annette R. Alexander, WMS, associate vice president of investments at the 928 N. Meridian St. office, received the award for her continuing service to her clients and community.
Workforce board
The Eastern Indiana Regional Workforce Board held its annual meeting, which featured successful WorkOne alumni and honors for two Jay County businesses.
The meeting showcased several alumni of the WorkOne program who have made waves since leaving the program.
WorkOne maintains a Portland office.
Two business were also recognized for bringing new jobs and industries to the area. SolarTech/SerTech and POET Biorefining were honored for their additions to the industry of the district.
Mexico-bound
Jobs at a Van Wert, Ohio, manufacturing facility are going to be going to Mexico.
The Kongsberg Automotive auto-parts plant will send 105 jobs to Mexico. The plant, which had 328 workers in April, will slash its staff in response to market woes. The plant produces gear shifters and other pieces for Big Three automakers.
Fleetwood cuts
Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. announced it cut another 250 jobs from its Decatur plants.
About 900 employees are still working in the recreational vehicle producing plants.
These cuts come on top of about 300 cuts made in June.
Fleetwood has been slicing jobs around the nation and bringing more focus to the Decatur operation, but has still called for reductions at the plants which are carrying a load of the company's production.
Snow removal
Vectren Energy Delivery is reminding customers to be careful when removing snow and ice from gas meters to avoid causing leaks.
Vectren asks that people remove any large icicles hanging over meters and to use a broom, not a shovel, to remove snow on meters and don't pile snow around them.[[In-content Ad]]
