The only thing able to keep the Portland Rockets from playing for the championship was the weather.
Portland picked up two wins — 11-1 in five innings over the Warsaw Indians and 7-5 over the Decatur Dirty Birds — on Saturday before the Heartland League championship game scheduled for Sunday was postponed because of rain.
After dominating Warsaw, the Rockets (34-9) fell behind 4-0 against the Dirty Birds. However, they came back with four runs in the fourth inning thanks in part to RBIs from Geoff Bowers and Dalton Tinsely.
They added a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth in the comeback victory. Jay County High School graduate Heath Williams, Ben Smith and Bowers each had two hits in the victory.
Devin Wilburn silenced Warsaw in the opener, striking out eight batters. The Indians managed just a run on three hits against him.
Mark Isenberg finished the game with a home run, and Cody Campbell had a pair of hits in the victory.
A make-up date for the championship game has not been announced. Portland will play either the Gary Patriots or Michigan City Lakers for the league title.[[In-content Ad]]
