Indian boys 13th in first AP vote

An 8-1 start to the season nearly got the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team into the state's top 10.

The Indians were 13th in the voting in the first Ohio Division IV boys basketball poll of the season by The Associated Press.

FRHS earned 38 poll points, finishing one behind Pandora-Gilboa and three ahead of Berlin Hiland. Racine Southern (4-0) picked up the No. 10 ranking with 46 points.

Newark Catholic (7-0) was first Division IV, and Continental (9-0) was voted second. Other top teams in Ohio are Northland in Division I, Dayton Dunbar in Division II and Findlay Liberty-Benton in Division III.

Two other Midwest Athletic Conference teams earned votes in the first poll of the season, with Coldwater (7-0) ranked fourth and St. Henry (6-2) sixth in Division III. Fort Recovery's lone loss came by a 40-39 loss to the host Cavaliers Dec. 30 in the Coldwater Classic.

Freshmen fall to 1-2

FORT RECOVERY - Two Indians scored in double figures Monday, but the freshman boys basketball team lost 41-33 to the Coldwater Cavaliers.

Trent Kaiser paced the Indians with 14 points, and Chad Schroer added 12 points. Mason Evers grabbed a team-best five rebounds.

Girls teams split

FORT RECOVERY - Tori Lennartz carried the seventh grade girls basketball team to a 28-17 victory Monday over Greenville. The eighth graders lost, 18-17.

Lennartz racked up 18 points to lead the seventh grade Indians, who improved to 5-2. Mikayla Grover was second on the team with four points.

Lexi Schmitz had eight points for the FRMS eighth grade squad (2-5), which was outscored 6-2 in the third quarter. Kelsee Ontrop added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
