Indian boys open new year with wins (01/05/05)

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior high boys basketball teams started off the new year in style by clobbering Union City.
The eighth grade boys team owned the entire game for a 50-17 victory. The seventh graders cruised to a 46-27 win.
Toby Metzger paced the eighth graders with 16 points as they rolled to a 15-point lead at the half. Wes Kahlig followed with eight points, and Tom Will added six.
Josh Wendel had 16 points and Greg Kahlig scored 15 for the seventh grade team, which is now 4-2. Cody Fiely added eight points.
HN jumps into top 10
Huntington North may not be undefeated, but it is state ranked.
As if undefeated Elwood didn’t provide enough of a challenge for the Jay County girls basketball team last week, its next game will be its first this season against one of the state’s top 10. It will host the Huntington North Vikings Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Vikings (10-1) have been just outside the top 10 in the voting by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association all season. They jumped in at No. 8 this week, earning 45 ratings points and finishing ahead of South Bend Washington (12-1) and Gary West (10-1).
Jay County (9-3) was on a nine-game winning streak before losing its last two games. It fell 50-48 to Fort Recovery (6-3) and 52-31 to Elwood (11-0).
Events canceled
Jay County High School’s gymnastics meet against Blackford and Marion and freshman girls basketball game at Eastbrook which were scheduled for tonight have been canceled.
Fort tickets
Tickets for Fort Recovery’s boys basketball games Friday and Saturday at home against New Knoxville and Ansonia will go on sale Thursday.
They will be sold in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $5.[[In-content Ad]]
