HN jumps into top 10

Huntington North may not be undefeated, but it is state ranked.

As if undefeated Elwood didn’t provide enough of a challenge for the Jay County girls basketball team last week, its next game will be its first this season against one of the state’s top 10. It will host the Huntington North Vikings Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Vikings (10-1) have been just outside the top 10 in the voting by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association all season. They jumped in at No. 8 this week, earning 45 ratings points and finishing ahead of South Bend Washington (12-1) and Gary West (10-1).

Jay County (9-3) was on a nine-game winning streak before losing its last two games. It fell 50-48 to Fort Recovery (6-3) and 52-31 to Elwood (11-0).
