FORT RECOVERY — The Indians owned the first half, but still could not break through for their first win. Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team dropped to 0-7 on the year Monday with a 45-39 loss to the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays.
The Tribe jumped to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter, and scored 12 more points in the second for a 12-point halftime advantage. The Blue Jays roared back to tie the game with 20 points in the third quarter and continued the rally for the victory.
Lucas Staugler paced the Indians with 13 points. Luke Bihn added eight points, and Kenton Sudhoff scored seven.
Heritage drops Stars
The Heritage Patriots dropped both South Adams junior high boys teams in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament Monday. The seventh grade Starfires lost a heart-breaker to the Patriots 30-29, and the eighth grade team fell 49-21.
South Adams’ seventh graders led the entire way — up by four after one quarter, two at the half and eight with just one period to play. But, it managed only a Heath Moser hoop in the fourth quarter as Heritage came storming back to steal the win.
Moser scored a team-high 11 points in the defeat.
Nick Teeter added nine points.
The eighth grade team trailed the whole way, going down by five after one quarter and 24-9 at the half. The Patriots put the game away with 21 points in the third quarter, increasing the lead to 32.
Kyle DeArmond paced the Starfires with nine points, and Chris Stutzman followed with four.
