Indiana author to visit area

Indiana author and Quaker pastor Philip Gulley will make two appearances in Portland on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Gulley will first present a workshop devoted to the art and business of writing. “The Writing Craft: Words About Words” will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. Registration deadline is Sept. 29. For more information or to register, call the library at (260) 726-7890, email [email protected] or visit the library.
“An Evening with Philip Gulley” will begin at 7 p.m. at Arts Place at 131 E. Walnut St. Gulley will talk about his career and share stories of small town life. No registration is necessary. There is no cost for either event.
•The Cookbook Club returns after its summer hiatus on Monday, Sept. 10, at 6:15 p.m. with the theme “End-of-the-garden concoctions.” Carry-in dishes should be made with garden fruits or veggies. The club will meet the second Monday of each month.
•The Book Discussion Group will meet Monday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. to discuss the book “The Philosopher’s Apprentice” by James Morrow. The group will meet the third Monday of each month.
