Fort Recovery roundup

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery High School baseball team got on the right side of shutout baseball Monday, defeating the visiting Franklin Monroe Jets 9-0.

The Indians (4-3), who lost 8-0 Saturday to Coldwater at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, scored at least one run in five out of six innings against Franklin Monroe (4-2). Four different pitchers combined for the shutout.

Bobby Rammel sparked the Tribe offense with a home run and a double. He drove in three runs and scored three times.

Clint Tobe went 2-for-3 with a run, and Brady Kahlig scored twice. Alex Gehle added a single, a run and an RBI.

Curt Heitkamp picked up the win, striking out four batters in three shutout innings. He allowed one walk and two hits.

Greg Kahlig had five strikeouts in two innings, Rammel struck out the side in one inning and Tobe also pitched one scoreless frame.

Softball stumbles late

COLDWATER, Ohio - Thanks to a three-run first inning, the Indians were in control. That is, until Coldwater came through late.

The host Cavaliers scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday and defeated the Fort Recovery softball team 5-4.

The Indians (2-6, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) got on the board early, and then added another run in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead. Coldwater pulled to within 4-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth before taking the lead in the sixth.

Beth May took the loss, giving up five runs - four earned - on eight hits. She struck out one in five innings and did not allow a walk.

Heather Schmackers finished with two hits and an RBI, and Joanna Snyder had two hits and a run. Val Fortkamp had a single, a run and an RBI.

Cavs defeat JV softball

FORT RECOVERY - The Coldwater Cavaliers scored four times in the first inning Monday as they topped the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team 9-1.

Andi Sutter took the loss, although only two of the nine runs against her were earned because of 12 errors. She gave up eight hits and four walks while striking out two batters.

Lorraine Shier went 2-for-3 with a double and a run to lead the Indian offense. Kendra Brunswick had a single and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
