Indians defeat Parkway

FORT RECOVERY — Once again the Indians were a game away from victory. This time, they wouldn’t let it slip away.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team avenged a loss from the St. Marys Invitational, picking up its first Midwest Athletic Conference victory of the season Thursday by a 25-15, 25-19, 12-25, 25-17 score over the Parkway Panthers.
Kelsey Fiely totaled 10 service points, six kills and six digs to lead the Indians (4-5, 1-2 MAC), who lost to Parkway in three games in the championship match of the tournament at St. Marys. Cassidy Rammel had 15 service points and 11 assists, and Sierra Pugh totaled six kills and six digs.
Hannah Kaup came up with 10 digs, and Haley Knapke notched eight blocks.
Fort Recovery dropped the junior varsity match 25-17, 24-26, 25-22 to the Panthers. Rachel Pugh finished with 10 assists, six service points and one block.
Cardinals top golfers
MINSTER, Ohio — The Indians got a strong effort from Kent Retz, but still fell short in a 165-185 loss Thursday to the host New Bremen Cardinals at Arrowhead Golf Club.
Retz turned in a career-best round, needing more than five strokes on just one hole. He finished with a score of 41.
Alex Britton picked up medalist honors for New Bremen with a 37, and his teammate Darin Bergman was just one stroke behind.
Elijah Kahlig followed Retz for Fort Recovery with a 46, and Josh Pohl and Chase Bruns each added scores of 49. Derek Backs shot 51, and Stewy Alig had a 56.
Homan leads FRMS
FORT RECOVERY — Will Homan scored twice Thursday as the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade football team stayed unbeaten with a 22-0 win over the Marion Local Flyers. The eighth grade team lost, 20-0.
Homan hauled in a 61-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Braun and also scored on a 10-yard run for the Indian seventh graders (4-0). Evan Post added a TD on a 35-yard interception return.
The FRMS eighth grade team fell behind 14-0 in the opening quarter as it slipped to 1-3.
