Indians earn 2nd MAC win (05/06/06)

FORT RECOVERY — Four runs in the opening inning lifted the Fort Recovery baseball team as it picked up its second conference win.

All of the scoring for both teams came in the first inning as the Indians defeated the New Bremen Cardinals 4-1. The Tribe, which will play host Minster for a sectional championship today at noon, is now 10-9 overall and 2-4 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Troy Metzger came up with the big hit, driving in a pair of runs with an RBI single. He also scored a run.

Curt Heitkamp finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Kevin Schoenherr had an RBI and a run.

Clint Tobe earned the victory, allowing just an unearned run on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Star softball falls in ACAC

GARRETT — The South Adams softball team coughed up a 2-0 lead, suffering a 7-4 loss to the Garrett Railroaders Friday.

The Starfires (7-8, 3-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) had the two-run lead after four innings, but Garrett pulled ahead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. South Adams scored once in the top of the sixth to tie the game, only to have the Railroaders respond with four runs of their own.

Amber Melick suffered the defeat, giving up seven runs — five earned — on nine hits. She struck out two and walked one.

Ashton Morgan paced the offense with a triple, a run and an RBI. Jordan Lehman had two hits, and Kayla Coblentz singled and scored a run.

Jay JV clobbers UC

The Jay County junior varsity baseball team scored five times in the first inning on the way to a 10-0, six-inning win over the Union City Indians Friday.

Phil Powell paced the offensive barrage, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. He also scored three runs.

Billy Wellman went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Zack Hummer added a pair of hits.

Derek Barnett got the victory, tossing a one-hit shutout. He stuck out 12 batters and walked only one.

JV Indians crush Cards

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team exploded for eight runs in the second inning of a 12-1 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals Friday.

The Indians (8-8, 1-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) got a 3-for-5 effort from Frank Thien. He stole four bases and scored a pair of runs.

Jordan Staugler and Derek Koester each added two hits. Ross Overman scored two runs.

Craig Garman picked up the win as he allowed just one unearned run on three hits. He struck out seven batters and walked one.[[In-content Ad]]
