Indians earn All-MAC honors

FORT RECOVERY — Seven Fort Recovery High School football players earned All-Midwest Athletic Conference honors this week, and 23 Indians received All-MAC academic awards Thursday.
Seniors Derek Gaerke and Kenny Wenning were named to the All-MAC first team at receiver and running back respectively. Jason Pottkotter earned second-team honors at quarterback, and Jacob Whitacre, Aaron Vagedes, Trent Kaiser and Kyle Timmerman picked up honorable mention.
Gaerke led Fort Recovery with 54 receptions for 705 yards and six touchdowns this season, and Wenning rushed for 663 yards and nine touchdowns. Pottkotter completed 128 passes for 1,793 yards and 14 TDs, and also ran for 449 yards.
The Tribe cross country team led the school with seven runners — Elle Sutter, Abby May, Jessica Vogel, Sam Tobe, Christen Wendel, Hannah Bihn and Brenda Link — earning All-MAC academic honors. Also picking up the award were Derek S. Sutter, Derek J. Sutter, Nathan Fullenkamp, Joe Gonzalez, Mitch Homan and Isaac Keller of the boys cross country team; Kelsey Fiely, Ericka Lennartz, Abby Backs, Kylie Kahlig and Amy Link of the volleyball team; Elijah Kahlig, Jared Kahlig and Chad Schroer of the boys golf team and Ryan Gaerke and Aaron Vagedes of the football team.

Baldauf takes 3rd
MONTPELIER — Jeff Baldauf was the top area driver Oct. 28 at Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Baldauf turned in a fifth-place finish in the Super Streets A Main race, finishing one spot ahead of fellow Portland resident Jeremy Stocker.
Jamie Heiser of Fort Recovery was 12th.
Mason Stewart and Steve Mills, both of Portland, placed ninth and 10th respectively in the Thunder Cars race with Shawn Wible (Bryant) and Travis Nichols (Portland) in 14th and 15th.
Baldauf added a 13th-place finish in Saturday’s Super Streets race, and Heiser took 19th. In the Thunder Cars event, Sean Torre of Portland was 15th with Nichols 17th and Wible 21st.

Hall class announced
Rick Heitkamp and Bob Leverette will be inducted into the Fort Recovery High School Athletic Hall of Fame in January.
Heitkamp finished eighth in the state in cross country during his senior season, won the Midwest Athletic Conference title twice and was an All-MAC selection four times. He also won three MAC titles in track and was a two-time state qualifier.
Leverette holds the FRHS boys basketball record for 3-pointers in a game (nine) and season (74), and finished his career fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,179 points. He was also a two-time letter winner in football, cross country and track.[[In-content Ad]]
