Indians fall in one-hitter

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians slipped to 0-6 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. They will have two chances at their next league foe.

Fort Recovery High School's baseball team managed just one hit Monday in a 12-0 loss to the St. Henry Redskins, who were 14th in the Division IV voting by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association this week.

The Tribe (8-9-1) will play at New Bremen tonight in league play, and then take on the Cardinals again Wednesday in the Division IV sectional championship game at Minster at 7:30 p.m.

Brady Kahlig took the loss against St. Henry as he allowed six runs on six hits and a walk in three innings.

Cody Fiely had the Indians' only hit.

Reynard wins two

HARTFORD CITY - Brandon Reynard won a pair of events Friday as the Jay County boys track team placed second at the Blackford Invitational.

The Patriots scored 88 points to finish behind Olympic Athletic Conference rival Anderson Highland (156) in the eight-team field. New Haven was third with 81.

Reynard dominated the 300-meter hurdles, winning by 1.5 seconds in 39.81 seconds. He was also first in the 200 dash in 22.05.

The senior narroly missed a third victory, finishing second by just five hundredths of a second in the 100 dash in 10.93.

Dexter Shreve earned the only other JCHS win, posting a time of 50.71 in the 400 dash. Joe Rasmussen was second in the 800 run, and Lance Franklin placed third in the discus.

Patriot JV rolls

BLUFFTON - Skylar Petty drove in four runs for the Jay County junior varsity baseball team Monday as it defeated the Bluffton Tigers 10-1.

Petty also had a double and a run as the Patriots scored two times in the first inning and three each in the fourth and seventh. Ryan Miskinis added two runs and two RBIs, and David Rosenbeck had two hits and two runs.

Anthony Robbins and Devin Conatser each scored twice.

Ty Huntsman picked up the win as he struck out two batters in three innings. The only run against him was unearned as he gave up just one hit and two walks.

Dusty Rodgers struck out six batters in four innings.

WJ breaks record

DUNKIRK - Tyler Back won a pair of events and helped the West Jay Middle School boys track team break its 4x100-meter relay record again Monday as it defeated Selma and Wes-Del.

The host Eagles, who ran their record to a perfect 9-0, finished with 52 points. Selma was second with 44, and Wes-Del finished with 10.

Back, Lucas Wiemer, Shelby Wendel and Blake Crouch broke their own record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.91 seconds. They set the previous mark May 5 at 50.2.

Back also earned two field-event wins, finishing first in the shot put and discus. He joined Crouch, Wiemer and Dylan Harris to win the 4x400 relay.

Wendel picked up the only other individual win for West Jay in the 110 hurdles.[[In-content Ad]]
