Indians fall to No. 2 Versailles

VERSAILLES, Ohio - The Indians rallied in the third game, but they could not force a fifth.

The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team fended off a sweep Thursday before falling 25-11, 25-16, 23-25, 25-13 to the Division III No. 2 Versailles Tigers.

Nicole Pottkotter totaled team highs of 27 assists, 14 kills and nine points for the Tribe (5-6, 1-4 Midwest Athletic Conference), which has dropped five straight after a 4-1 start. Carly Staugler added 24 assists and seven points against the Tigers (11-1, 4-0 MAC), and Chelsey Leuthold had 15 digs and 11 kills.

Emily May came up with 19 digs, and Holly Brunswick added 11 kills.

Ericka Lennartz led the junior varsity team (6-4) to a 25-16, 25-22 win with seven digs and six kills. Nichole Kaiser and Holly Thien each had six kills and six points, and Kayla Kahlig finished with 14 assists.

Gridders win

ROCKFORD, Ohio - Fort Recovery's seventh grade football team scored 14 fourth-quarter points Thursday for a 20-6 victory over the host Parkway Panthers.

The game was tied at six at halftime, and after a scoreless third quarter the Indians (3-1) came alive. Ryan Muhlenkamp scored on a 3-yard run, and Jesse Faller sealed the game with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Cole Hull had a 40-yard TD run in the first quarter and added the 2-point conversion after Muhlenkamp's run.

Spikers stumble

They eighth graders lost 25-17, 25-5 while the seventh graders fell 27-25, 25-14.

Tori Lennartz led the seventh grade Indians (1-7) with five points, two kills and one dig. Cassidy Rammel scored nine points, and Makayla Grover had three assists.

Sierra Pugh totaled five points, one kill, one assist and one dig for the eighth grade squad (0-8). Ashley Homan had three points, and Lexi Schmitz added two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
