Fort Recovery Roundup

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians discovered a shooting touch they hadn’t seen in a while. And it was fun to have it back.

Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team shot 55 percent in the second half, more than doubling its scoring output from two nights earlier in a 74-57 victory over the St. Henry Redskins.

The Tribe (8-4, 3-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) shot just 32 percent Tuesday in a 52-35 loss to Fort Loramie. It had 34 points by halftime against St. Henry, holding an 11-point lead which it would not give away.

Sophomores Tiff Gaerke and Holly Stein had their best offensive output of the season in the same game.

Gaerke was on fire from the field, shooting 11-of-16 (69 percent) as she scored 25 points. Stein was also over 50 percent as she finished 10-of-18 from the field and scored 23 points.

The pair swapped positions in rebounding, with Stein grabbing a team-high nine while Gaerke followed with seven. Stein added three assists and two steals, and Gaerke notched three blocks.

Sara Fortkamp made all but one of her field-goal attempts, including her only 3-point try, to finish with seven points. She also had four steals, and Vicki Roessner added five assists and four steals.

Lanee Mikesell had 15 points to lead the Redskins (4-7, 1-3 MAC). She was second on the team with six rebounds, and added three steals and two assists.

Brenda Hemmelgarn had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Danielle Kremer also reached double figures with 11 points.
