Indians named All-MAC

Four Indians were honored this week as members of the All-Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball team.
Senior Kylie Kahlig and junior Kelsey Fiely picked up All-MAC second-team honors, and Ericka Lennartz and Abby Backs earned honorable mention.
St. Henry, which has just one loss this season and is ranked No. 1 in Division IV, walked away with the top honors. Senior outside hitter Katie Hoyng was voted MAC Player of the Year and Diana Kramer was named Coach of the Year.
Kahlig, a middle hitter, played big in both of the Tribe’s league wins this year, finishing with 17 points and 15 blocks against New Bremen and adding 10 blocks against St. John’s. Fiely led FRHS to the win over St. John’s with 14 service points, seven kills and two blocks.
Backs and Lennartz are both among the top players in the area in digs, averaging 4.08 and 2.53 per game respectively.
Flyers, Panthers win
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Marion Local Flyers and Parkway Panthers picked up victories Tuesday in the opening round of the Division IV sectional volleyball tournament at Coldwater.
Marion Local, ranked fourth in the state, rolled to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 victory over Minster, and Parkway eked out a 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 17-15 win over New Knoxville.
The teams will meet in sectional-championship action Saturday at 3 p.m.
Fort Recovery will play its first tournament match at Coldwater tonight against Spencerville at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play St. Henry in the second sectional championship match Saturday at 5 p.m.
EJ splits with Eagles
The East Jay Middle School football team split shutouts with the visiting Delta Eagles Tuesday, winning the eighth grade game 18-0. The Chief seventh graders fell 16-0.
Levi Hummel powered the EJMS eighth graders (6-2) with a pair of touchdown runs. Nick Larison added a 40-yard TD run, and Michael Vanover had a pair of interceptions.
Reynolds had a 20-yard reception to lead the offense for the seventh grade team (4-3-1) and picked off a pass. Luke Weaver also had an interception.[[In-content Ad]]
