Indians open vs. Spencerville

COLDWATER, Ohio — The Indians will have to go through the top-rated team in the state in order to earn a sectional title.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team will play its first match of the Division IV tournament at Coldwater against Spencerville Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. A victory would send the Indians to the sectional championship against No. 1 St. Henry.
The tournament brackets were released Sunday.
The Indians (4-15), who have lost 11 in a row, and Spencerville (4-16) are the only teams in the Coldwater tournament that don’t boast double-digit wins. In other opening-round matches, No. 5 Marion Local (15-5) will play Minster (10-9) Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. with Parkway (16-3) and New Knoxville (11-8) to follow.
The winners of the Oct. 18 matches will meet in the first of two sectional championship matches Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. with the Fort Recovery/Spencerville winner to play St. Henry (19-1) at 5 p.m.

FR JV spikers spilt
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity volleyball team defeated the Piqua Indians 25-17, 25-11 Saturday, but fell 25-22, 25-13 to the St. Henry Redskins.
Heather Vaughn led the way with 14 service points in the victory for FRHS, which is now 10-5. Sierra Pugh added 11 service points.
Haley Knapke totaled seven service points in the loss to St. Henry.

Eagle 7th wins
DUNKIRK — Four different players scored for the
West Jay Middle School seventh grade football team Saturday in a 28-14 victory over the visiting Southern Wells Raiders. The eighth grade squad fell 46-14.
Dakota Grove had the longest touchdown run for the Eagle seventh graders, galloping 54 yards to the end zone in the second quarter. Also adding scoring runs were Jacob Geesaman (18 yards), Logan Bantz (11) and Tyler Jester (one).
Kyle Blankenship scored on runs of 90 and 95 yards for the West Jay eighth grade team. Will Watson had a forced fumble, and Lance Ferguson came up with a fumble recovery.

Stigleman leads
Colt Stigleman was the top scorer Saturday in the Jay County Pee Wee Football League.
Stigleman racked up three touchdowns in leading the Giants to a 24-8 victory over the Bengals. Hunter Mills, Cody Knisely and Caleb Manor scored two touchdowns apiece in leading their teams to victory, and Ryan Schlecty, Noah Hummel and Holten Hill each had a TD as the Colts beat the Hawks 24-8.

Andrews takes 1st
Kyle Andrews was the top competitor Oct. 1 as Jay Community Center hosted the Hudson Family Park Half Marathon and 5K.
Andrews was the overall winner of the half-marathon, finishing in 1 hour, 33 minutes, 3 seconds. Denise Conrad was first in the women’s competition at 1:33:16.
Adam Bailey won the men’s 5K race in 21:52, and April Wallischeck took the top spot in the women’s race in 28:30. The group of Ron Laux, Duane Monroe, Nathan Myers, Mark Arnold and Pete Byrum took the team relay half marathon.[[In-content Ad]]
