Indians pick up first MAC victory (04/18/07)

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio - Fort Recovery got back on track against the Rangers.

The Indian baseball team opened with five straight wins, but back-to-back shutouts to Midwest Athletic Conference foes followed. The Tribe bounced back Tuesday for its first MAC win of the season, knocking off the New Knoxville Rangers 11-1 in six innings.

Fort Recovery (6-2, 1-2 MAC) had just a 1-0 lead through three frames before getting the offense working. It scored three times in the fourth and sixth innings and four times in the fifth for the 10-run margin.

Clint Tobe and Curt Heitkamp each finished with two hits, including a double, and a stolen base. Tobe drove in a pair of runs, and Heitkamp scored twice.

Toby Metzger added two doubles and a run, and Troy Metzger finished with two runs.

Kevin Schoenherr allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings for the win. He struck out five batters.

SA baseball tops Heritage

BERNE - Daniel Bollenbacher powered the South Adams baseball team to a 7-2 victory over the Heritage Patriots.

Bollenbacher went 3-for-4, finishing as one of four Starfires with multiple hits. One of those hits was a double as he also drove in two runs and scored once.

Jordan Steiner went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Andrew Caffee and Tyler Neuenschwander each finished with two hits and one run.

Caffee got the win, allowing two runs - one earned - on six hits. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

No. 3 Knights down Jay

OSSIAN - The Norwell Knights, ranked third in the state in Class 3A, proved too much for Jay County's baseball team Tuesday as the Patriots fell 13-1 in five innings.

JCHS (2-1) managed just a pair of hits, but could have kept the game closer if not for seven errors. Those miscues led to seven unearned runs in its first loss of the season.

Josh Ludy suffered the defeat as he gave up 10 runs on eight hits in 12/3 innings. But, six of those runs were of the unearned variety.

Ludy was also responsible for Jay County's only run as he hit a solo home run in the first inning. Rhett Retter had the only other Patriot hit.

Tribe girls fall again

FORT RECOVERY - The slump continued for the Fort Recovery softball team Tuesday with a 13-4 loss to the visiting Jefferson Wildcats.

The Indians (1-5), who have lost four straight, scored once in each of the opening four innings. They had 11 hits to Jefferson's 10, but were unable to capitalize.

Kinsey Wenning took the loss as five of the 13 runs against her were unearned. She gave up two walks while striking out one.

Sandra Sudhoff led the offense with two hits, two runs and two stolen bases. Lori Osterholt added two hits, one run and one RBI, and Val Fortkamp, Jodi Tobe and Wenning each finished with two hits.

Jay JV downs Winchester

Three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings carried the Jay County junior varsity baseball team to an 11-7 win Tuesday over the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.

Eric Homan was the beneficiary of the late offense as he earned the win in relief. He tossed three innings, allowing three runs - two earned - on four hits and a walk while recording half of the Patriot pitching staff's 12 strikeouts.

Colton Lombardo led the JCHS offense, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. He scored three times and also drove in a run.

Michael Daniels had two hits and two RBIs, Ben Vance finished with two runs and two RBIs and Homan doubled and scored twice.[[In-content Ad]]
