Indians' rally falls just short

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians suffered a game-one blowout and faced a two-game deficit. They rallied, but could not quite come all the way back.

Fort Recovery High School's volleyball team forced a fifth game only to fall 25-11, 25-18, 17-25, 19-25, 15-12 to the St. Henry Redskins in their Midwest Athletic Conference opener.

Nicole Pottkotter led the Tribe (1-1) in assists (20), kills (18) and points (13). She also had a pair of blocks.

Carly Staugler added 14 assists and nine points, and Holly Brunswick had 10 kills and three blocks. Emily May paced the defense with 22 digs, and Chelsey Leuthold notched 16 digs.

FRHS dropped the junior varsity match 25-21, 15-9.

Holly Thien totaled eight points and five digs in the loss.

Jays defeat golfers

CELINA - Each of the St. John's Blue Jays top four players outscored Fort Recovery's leader Thursday as they handed the Tribe a 160-198 defeat in boys golf.

Jared Kahlig had two bogeys as he led the Indians with a 45. Cody Kundert of St. John's took medalist honors with a 36.

The remaining three scoring golfers for the Indians each had two bogeys as well as Derek Rammel shot 49, Shawn Roessner had a 51 and Hayden Pottkotter finished at 53.

Gage Retz finished at 54.

MS gridders split

FORT RECOVERY - Both football games were shutouts Thursday with the Fort Recovery seventh grade team defeating the St. John's Blue Jays 42-0 and the eighth grade team falling 34-0.

Mitch Stammen led the seventh grade Indians with a 4-yard TD pass to Derek Backs and a 40-yard TD run. Zach Tobe returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, and Cole Hull and Evan Schoen each added TD runs.

Fort Recovery's eighth grade team fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter as it lost its season opener.[[In-content Ad]]
